Solrenning Sæle
Traditional Norwegian Tune
Arranged by Ollie Lambert
6-parts - SAATTB
Solrenning Sæle, which in English translates to “Blessed Sunrise”, is a beautiful Norwegian hymn that compares Jesus' birth to the rising sun. The lyrics describe the final sunrise in the Book of Revelation and hold strong symbolism beyond their religious meaning. This portrayal of light in times of darkness offers a beacon of hope to all. Its tune is shared with a traditional folk song Jesus to Taste Your Sweet Company which comes from the county of Rogaland on the west coast. Norwegian folk culture is maintained to this day through dance, costume and their annual independence celebration on the 17th of May. Their music, both sacred and secular, takes huge inspiration from these thriving traditions.
