The Apex Singers are a brand new 8-part a cappella vocal ensemble, that will focus on performing fresh arrangements written exclusively for the group. Based in Manchester, the ensemble aims to blend the age-old traditions of unaccompanied vocal music with the cutting edge of production technology; with performances including live mixing, sampling and electronic effects. Directing the group is composer and vocalist Ollie Lambert, whose work has been commissioned and performed by choirs all around the UK, including the BBC Singers, Canterbury Cathedral Choir and the Hallé Youth Choirs. The Apex Singers are commencing their new touring project, Hiraeth, that will explore folk traditions from across the world.
The Hiraeth Project will breathe new life into rarely heard folk songs from around the world, arranged by award-winning choral composer Ollie Lambert. This project brings cultures together in a series of performances, serving as a spring board to launch a brand new eight-part a cappella vocal group, ‘The Apex Singers’. Following the premiere of the project in Manchester, Hiraeth will be taken to venues in Canterbury, and Dublin, culminating in a performance at The International Irish A Cappella Festival in July 2019.
‘Hiraeth’ – Welsh word meaning ‘nostalgia’. A deep longing for home.
