Blow Away the Morning Dew
Traditional English
Arranged by Ollie Lambert
5-parts - SATTB
Also known as The Baffled Knight, this melody is from Cecil Sharp’s 1916 collection of folk songs, however the earliest printed version of this traditional ballad appeared in the 1600s. The song tells the story of a farmer’s son who finds a maid bathing in a brook. He intrudes and tries to seduce her, but she holds him off by promising marriage and a large dowry if he can wait until they get to her father’s house. Craftily, when they arrive, she goes in first, locking the farmer’s son outside and taunting him for his gullibility.
