The Booley House
Traditional Irish Tune
Arranged by Ollie Lambert
8-parts - SSAATTBB
The Booley House is a traditional fiddle tune from Ireland that was featured on the critically acclaimed, self-titled 2016 folk album by The Gloaming. Like many other traditional tunes it features combinations of existing musical jigs, reels and slides that are intended to be repeated and alternated. Ireland and the west coast of Scotland have beenthe home of Gaelic culture since 500 BC, but it is believed that the ensemble tradition that we are now familiar with originated as late as the 19th century. The piece is named after simple shelters built of stone in the remote, mountainous areas of Ireland. Farmers would use these during the warmer summer months while driving their cattle. As a result, Booley Houses inadvertently became important cultural hotspots as visitors gathered together to tellstories and share folk music.
