The Fox
Traditional English Folk Song
Arranged by Ollie Lambert
8-parts - SSAATTBB
The Fox is one of the oldest English songs to still exist, thought to have originated in 15th century England. For 600 years, it has passed from generation to generation, crossing the Atlantic with those who sought a new life in America. Because it is so old, very little is known about its origins but we do know that the earliest versions of the lyrics are recorded in two Middle English manuscripts that were found in the 1950s. The Fox was preserved in the oral tradition long enough that American folk song enthusiasts could bring it to new audiences when they began collecting songs in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
